Guest Info - Accommodations - Recommendations
Hey everyone! We can’t wait to see you all! Many of you are coming from out of town (Some WAY out of town!) and naturally you have some questions. Where do I stay? What do I do when I’m not at the wedding? Should I take MARTA?! (Yes, but it depends on where you’re going!)
Where to Stay
Firstly, we should say that the best way to enjoy your stay is going to be a good AirBnB. Atlanta has quite a few to choose from, but I strongly recommend you pay VERY close attention to where that listing is located. Unlike some cities, Atlanta has fairly strongly delineated areas that are better to travel to/from as our traffic infrastructure is not good. Additionally, like Chicago, New York and other large cities there are sections that are simply not recommended for out-of-towners to stay. I’ve made a little map that should include a large selection of AirBnB’s and hotels that are close to the venue, easy to stay at, and have great access to the things that make Atlanta great. I promise, the few extra bucks you’d pay to stay here will be very worth it! (And you likely will save money in transportation costs!!!)
One last thing to note: You are probably used to looking at maps of cities, and at first glance it might seem like my “area” appears small and restrictive. Atlanta is huge and spread out compared to almost any other city like it in the U.S. - the circled area is over 25 miles square.
What to do
What can we say? We LOVE Atlanta! Over the 20 cumulative years we’ve spent here we’ve been a few places and would love to share those with you.
Touristy Stuff (we had to do it)
Beltline Trail
Ponce City Market
Coke Museum
Aquarium
Restaurants
We love to eat, so naturally we have about a million restaurants we could recommend. We’re going to try and group them as logically as possible, but do remember that Atlanta is a big city! Some of these are going to be a bit of a hike especially if you aren’t renting a car.
Breakfast
Java Jive CASH ONLY!!! However, be prepared for one of the greatest hidden gems in Atlanta. Routinely wins awards for best biscuits in town.
The Majestic Awesome greek-ish diner. Very classic ATL, open 24hrs. Don’t come here after 2AM and before 6AM.
The Federal Michelle and I used to walk here nearly every weekend. Fabulous brunch!
Muchacho Relatively new to the scene, this quickly became one of my TOP spots! Unique, great decor and in a super cool area.
Thumbs Up Diner If you’re going to go here, try to be early. We’re diner fans and this one makes the grade!
Chick-A-Biddy & Bantam + Biddy Local celebrity-chef owned, one of the best “chicken & waffle” spots (don’t bother with Gladys Knight’s)
Silver Skillet Featured in Anchorman 2, this place doesn’t look like much but just wait until you try the Fried Pork Chops!
The NOT Recommended list:
I don’t recommend Flying Biscuit, Mary Mac’s Tearoom or West Egg primarily because these are slammed at all times you’d want to go. The food is good, but there are much better options that you won’t wait an hour to get seated. You will see these very frequently on “best of” lists and that’s probably why they’re packed.
Coffee/Tea
Doctor Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party With a name like that, how could we not recommend it?
Octane Atlanta classic. Although not quite the Octane of yore, this is where the Hipster Barista meme came from.
Brash Excellent choice, built entirely within a shipping container!
East Pole High-end coffee, a little funky to get to but very worth the trip.
Land of a Thousand Hills Larger chain, but well situated and great interiors. Good coffee!
Dancing Goats (AKA Batdorf & Bronson) Probably the biggest quality coffee distributor in ATL, this location is super close to Ponce City Market.
Cafe Intermezzo Another O.G. Atlanta classic coffee spot - unbeatable in town for Dessert as well!
